Rainbow over the Leviathan

On a showery afternoon I waited around hoping for the right combination of rain and sunshine. On this occasion I was lucky and got the shot I wanted.

Standing in the light rain with the sun behind me meant that the bow was strong. Unfortunately I did get a couple of drops on the filter in this image.

Zooming in a bit shows the 'Leviathan of Parsonstown', as the Earl of Rosse's 72 inch telescope was called in the nineteenth century.

Supernumeraries over the Leviathan

For a few moments there was a distinct supernumerary bow. Faint white vertical streaks in the bow are sunlight reflected off nearby rain drops.
