Central and Southern Africa have high rates of lightning during the rainy season and the South African Highveld is no exception.
In 10 days I saw more lightning than in 10 years in the UK.
Daytime video wasn't entirely successful because it triggered a change of exposure and banded frames but taking a traditional series of long exposures at night worked well.

I didn't mind being woken at 3 in the morning by thunder, but unfortunately most of the storm was behind the hotel.

This combined cloud and ground strike was perfectly placed.

The storm gradually moved off to the right out of view.
