Partial Lunar Eclipse - 7th September 2006

Having been clouded out on the last few lunar eclipses it was a pleasant surprise to be able to see one at moonrise.

Here the moon is still low enough for the lower edge to be distorted by the atmosphere.

With the top part of the moon hidden in the umbra and the atmospheric reddening it looked a strange sight looming over the hills.

A little later and higher up the reddening has reduced. Although it was only a small partial the low altitude made it more interesting.

Increasing the exposure by several stops allowed the shadowed edge of the moon to be seen.
