Scattering and Time of Day

Electric Peak in the late afternoon, the light coloured rock is being lit by scattered light. The sun is off to the right and although it wasn't very hazy the sky is almost white from scattering off larger particles.

The next morning at sunrise the top of the mountain showed a beautiful orange colour, but the effect lasted just a few minutes.

Three hours later with a high sun and clear air the mountain shows its true colour. Looking at 90 degrees from the sun and with just molecular scattering the sky is a classic blue.
