Geminid Meteors - December 2012

The Geminids meteor shower is one of the best of the year and with no interference from the moon 2012 looked promising. Wwe had a few clear spells in the days before maximum but were completely clouded out on the night.

A composite of three modest meteors captured on the night of 10/11th December.

A more interesting composite of four meteors captured closer to the radiant on the night of 11/12th December. Castor and Pollux are the two bright star close to where the tracks intersect.

Jupiter is the bright object at upper right, with the Hyades and Pleiades star clusters nearby.

Conditions were poor on 12/13th December, the night before maximum, but I set up the camera anyway. Even through thin cloud this Geminid would have been spectacular.

Even when there was a partial clearing this meteor went off the frame.

A final meteor before the cloud closed in for the next couple of days.
