Earthshine, Mercury and Pleiades

For once the weather was kind and allowed a clear view of the earthlit moon near the Pleiades and Mercury below.

Viewed through binoculars this was a spectacular sight with the contrast of the warm glow of earthshine and the brilliant white stars of the Pleiades. The image doesn't do it justice.

The following evening, with the moon higher in the sky, the earthshine isn't as reddened by the atmosphere.
