Narrow Shadows at Sunset

I watched this brightening in the cloud above the sun in case it developed into a sunpillar, but that didn't come to much.

The low sun casts shadows from regular crests on the bottom line of cloud onto the closer cloud giving a banded effect. To the right a contrail casts a thin shadow onto some cirrus.

All the shadows point back to where the sun was setting and the remains of the weak sun pillar can still be seen directly above that position.

Criss-crossing contrails as the sun sets.
