Noctilucent Cloud - 14th July 2009

This bright evening display reached higher into the sky than usual and showed a lot of structure. The sun was 9.3 degrees below the horizon when this composite of two images was taken.

There was a lot of wavelike structure and the cloud was noticeably brighter and whiter towards the horizon.

The wavelike structure didn't change very quickly, over the few minutes covered by the sequence the main change was a steady drift towards the west.

We were lucky to see anything because of a large evening shower moving in. The sequence and final few images were taken with rain falling - thanks to Nicky for holding the umbrella!
